WordPress Social Icon Plugin

Over the past couple of weeks, I was pretty busy working on a lot of tedious projects and haven’t had time to work on cool stuff.  At any rate, I was helping out on my favorite clients build her blog and she needed a lot more icons than just facebook and twitter, she wanted something different with other icons that included a dog icon and a heart icon. So obviously, font-awesome was probably the way to go, right!? Well I found one quickly on the public library and attached it to her WordPress and showed her but then I realized, it’s bit like coding cause there’s a bit of code on the other plugins with the elements and tags…

     <a href="#"><i class="fa fa-facebook"></i>Facebook</a>
     <a href="#"><i class="fa fa-twitter"></i>Twitter</a>
     <a href="#"><i class="fa fa-instagram"></i>Instagram</a>

And so I thought this probably would not be the right solution for her since she’s really not about to hard code any tags, classes, divs, elements and other shit like on the text widget.  So I made a simple Social icon widget that would probably be easier.

I tried a bunch of different plugins and thought that contributors have a lot of really great ideas for plugins that let you grab all kinds of colorful and custom social networking icons but there’s a lot of them that are too hard to configure or just confusing.  I thought it would make more sense to keep as simple as possible to use the basics.  One flat color for all the icons to go with your color palette of your website and the size of the icon.  Also using the Font Awesome library was the best choice in my opinion.  At any rate, enjoy it if you use WordPress or go to the Font awesome directly and learn how to code it the traditional HTML5 way.
